Spencertown, New York–Spencertown Academy Arts Center Family Arts Kaleidoscope program announces three fall art and music workshops. Admission is free, but registration is required via www.spencertownacademy.org.
Academy Board Members Carol Essert and Phyllis Diamond co-chair Family Arts Kaleidoscope. “The goal of the Academy’s Family Arts Kaleidoscope, a series of free arts workshops for toddlers, school age children and their adult companions, is simple: to bring the arts into family life,” says Diamond. “We believe that families sharing artistic experiences together enhances childhood development and social skills,” adds Essert.
On September 20 from 10:30am to 12:30pm, Karen Martin, director of the Art School of Columbia County, will present “Make It, Shrink It, Wear It.” Kids, 8 years old and over will create wearable art with their own designs and images on a sheet of polystyrene with markers, pastels, and paint. Sheets will then be baked in a low-heat oven -- and voilà! “shrink art.”
On October 18 from 10:00am to 11:00am, singer, songwriter, and recording artist John Farrell and his wife, guitarist and singer Ann Marie, will lead “The Earth is Our Home,” a participatory session of songs about nature, animals, and the planet Earth for children ages 3 to 7 and adults. Sign language and call-and-response songs will have audience members laughing while learning.
The Farrells will return on October 25 from 10:00 to 11:00 for “Let Your Heart Sing,” a program of singing that explores how kindness, empathy, and working together make the world a better place.
This program is made possible by grants from Stewart's Shops and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
